2012 Met Mile and Sands Point Stakes

Shackleford (right) led wire-to-wire and held off Caleb’s Posse by a nose to win the 2012 Metropolitan Handicap (G1) at Belmont Park with To Honor and Serve finishing third. Also on the card, Better Lucky won the Sands Point Stakes (G2). Get the results, charts, and photos here.

Horse Racing Handicapping Jockeys and Trainers in Triple Crown Races

Just as the Yankees have dominated the world of major league baseball, certain horse trainers and jockeys have won more than their share of horse races. Top trainers such as Bob Baffert who saddled this year’s runner up in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, Bodemeister, have won more than their share, but that isn’t always an indicator of future success. Despite starting sending 18 starters to post in the triple crown since 2003, only one of Mr. Baffert’s horses has managed to win. Yet he is fifth all time for wins in the prestigious races that can make a trainer.

Horse Racing Handicapping Basic Training

Handicapping horse races requires discipline and skills. In the military all recruits, no matter how high they may rise on the ladder of command, have to complete basic training. The skills, discipline, and knowledge acquired there are the foundation for all future actions and decisions.
