One thing that some handicappers forget is that horses, like all living creatures, are in a constant state of change. Many know about the form cycle, but few people use it as well as they might because it varies from horse to horse. Add the factor of the trainer and how that conditioner may use a different tactic and you soon find yourself wondering how to tell what will happen. In the good old days when handicappers would only be able to play one track (did I really say, “good” old days?) a handicapper could acquaint himself with the local trainer’s moves and deciphering the form cycle would be easy.
