Horse Racing Handicapping Using The Best Time At the Distance

One of the many statistics that handicappers use to evaluate the runners in a race is, “the best time at the distance statistic,” also known as BTD. The BTD is the fastest speed figure that the horse earned at the same distance as the race it is about to run in and naturally, if the horse has never run at the distance, there is no information for the handicapper. Knowing that a horse ran 6 furlongs at the fastest time can be very helpful when you’re comparing the runners, but you do have to use some common sense when using that stat.
