Finding Good Bets On Horse Racing Favorites
The favorite, also known as the “chalk,” at the horse races is the horse that has the most money wagered on it to win and therefore is at the lowest odds to win. Every race must have a favorite and though they only win about a third of the races, the public still places their faith in them. While the takeout (the money the race track takes from the pools before they pay the winners) at many race tracks is about 20%, people who bet exclusively on winners usually pay a little less than 20% because even though they lose two thirds of the time, they’re still not such a bad bet.
