There are several levels to handicapping. From beginner to the most advanced levels and many players are individual or single factor handicappers such as a class handicapper, a form handicapper, a speed handicapper, etc. But whenever you use only one factor to predict races with you’re limited no matter how strong that single factor is. A stronger way than using only a single factor is to use several factors. Only a handful of single factors shall be mentioned in this article with some of their elements or aspects.

There are those who get profitcapping mixed up with value capping but these are as different as night and day. To give them definitions lets you see the difference immediately. Profitcapping is the predicting and determining of the amount of profit (money value) to be made over weeks, months and up to 10 or more years in the future. This is a long-term outlook. Value capping on the other hand is seeing if profit can be made from today’s present race(s) and is a day to day very short-term outlook. Though they are different value capping is a sub-system or sub-factor of profitcapping.

There are two general major divisions to racing: handicapping and profitcapping. Most players when handicapping use statistics but not their own created statistics. But they use the daily racing form, books, the racing digest and/or online materials. When players are looking at racing from a short-term perspective (day by day) and not even a week ahead or several years ahead then they tend to handicap in a specific way. There’s utterly nothing wrong or the matter with this. This is handicapping at a certain level and certain basic materials are used to do it. This basic material has many aspects to it and so this article is merely a short list of many of the important ones.

There are a handful of wager types in racing such as win, place, show, exacta, quinella, trifecta, superfecta, high-five, pick 2 (daily double), pick 3 (triples), pick 4, pick 5, pick 6 to place pick all. Each wager is made of one or more of the five value-positions which are win, place, show, fourth and fifth. Each value-position is part of profitcapping (predicting money or profit to be made) and corresponds to the order-of-finish positions of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th of handicapping (predicting the results of races). So the question is: what do you do or what can you do with this small amount of information? From a handicapping side? From a profitcapping side?

Not because they lack intelligence but because they think that the way they’re already going will lead them to it. It won’t and this is a hard pill for players to swallow. To find the most powerful methods in handicapping you must comprehend the ultimate principles of the game. That there are two major divisions to racing: handicapping and profitcapping. Another principle is: there’s a system that’s used to find the best and most powerful methods and systems. A system to find the system.
