Horse Racing Handicapping In The Paddock and On The Track

Mon ,30/06/2014

One very good handicapping method that is often overlooked is sight handicapping. The process of evaluating the runners in a race on the basis of how they appear physically at the time of the race or only moments before post time may pay off in big dividends. While it is important to read the past performance thoroughly and to form an opinion about the pace of the race and other factors, the would-be prognosticator must remember that was then and post time is now. In other words, form like many things in life is fleeting and fickle, here today gone tomorrow.

Are Horse Racing Long Shots Good Bets Over Time And How Do You Find Them

Mon ,30/06/2014

While favorites win more horse races than longshots, many people play long shots trying for a big win ticket and to come out ahead for the day. Is this an act of desperation and how often does it pay off? Many people know about the vigorish, or “vig,” that race tracks take out of the money that people bet on the races. If the crowd bets $20,000 to win on the horses in a race the race track will take a percentage of that and pay the state. After they pay the state the rest is profit. That’s why it’s so hard to make a profit whether you bet on low odds horses or horses at high odds. The usual amount of the vig is around 20%.

Help I Keep Losing Money At The Horse Races

Fri ,27/06/2014

Are you tired of losing money at the horse races? Are you looking for a way to start winning? You’re not alone. On any given day there are races being run all around the world and there are millions of people wagering on them. While a small percentage will actually make a profit, a much higher percentage of the horse players will lose. Simple mathematics tells us that in order for horse racing to survive there must be a source of revenue. Tracks get their money from the “vig.” That’s short for vigorish which is what the track takes from all the pools to pay themselves and the government.

Exacta and Trifecta Bets That Pay Off In Certain Horse Races

Thu ,26/06/2014

If you’d like to win more trifecta and exacta bets, consider situational handicapping. Situational handicapping is the art of spotting situations that occur in races due to a combination of factors. Horse players who use situational handicapping also may be said to do situational betting. They wager on races according to one or more factors and how the factors relate to the eventual winner and the payoff. Therefore, it could be said that when one situation occurs the bettors then look for the other situation in order to make a profitable bet.

Horse Racing Handicapping Problems and Solutions For Picking Winners

Thu ,26/06/2014

Do you sometimes run into situations while you’re evaluating the runners in a race that brings your handicapping to a stop? You’re not alone. For many of us handicapping a race is usually a straightforward procedure because we know how to compare the various factors and to weigh them against each other. Of course, it’s still a matter of judgment and there are no automatic plays that deliver sustainable profits, but once you’ve handicapped enough races the basic factors stand out. The difficulty in picking winners is that you are sometimes faced with the great unknown.

Horse Racing Handicapping Using Extreme Post Position Bias As A Factor

Wed ,25/06/2014

One handicapping factor that is often overlooked or underestimated is post position. While there are many races where the post position has little meaning, there are other times and places when the place your horse starts from can make a big difference on the outcome of the race. If you’re going to be a serious handicapper you should pay attention to every detail including the post stats. You can find those statistics in the programs at the track or online at the tracks website in most cases. When you handicap a horse race start by thinking of how the race will actually be run.

Horse Racing Handicapping With Jockeys As A Factor

Wed ,25/06/2014

The rider of a horse in the race can have an effect on the outcome, but a great rider can’t make a slow horse win. The best jockeys do very little, but they do it well. As the old saying goes, “sometimes, more is less.” That’s certainly true in any horse race whether it’s a thoroughbred race or a harness race. The jockey or driver can make a horse lose by trying too hard or putting a horse where it does not belong. You may have heard handicappers and race pundits talking about a horse “settling,” in a race.

Easy Horse Racing Handicapping System For Picking Winners

Tue ,24/06/2014

Though I recommend that you spend enough time to handicap a horse race in depth, there are times when you need a quick and easy system to home in on the contenders in a horse race. Handicapping is a process of determining each horse’s chances of winning while smart betting is finding the right price based on your estimation of each runner’s chances of winning. Here’s a way to eliminate a lot of horses that have little chance of winning while finding the contenders.

Easy Horse Racing System Based on the Morning Line and Other Factors

Tue ,24/06/2014

Almost everyone knows that the morning line is an estimate of what the odds will be at post time. The morning line is usually determined by a track handicapper who has some knowledge of the horses because most have been at the race track and trained by a local trainer. The handicapper is also experienced at picking winners and rating each horse’s chance of winning.
