The Byerley Turk – The Legend

Founder of the modern Thoroughbred horse racing bloodstock – The Byerley Turk or Byerly Turk was one of the three stallions accounted for the rise of thoroughbred horse racing during 17th and early 18th Century; the other two being – Godolphin Arabian and Darley Arabian. History depicts that the stallion was captured by Captain Byerley at the Battle of Buda in the year 1686. He had served as a war horse to the Captain till he was sent to Ireland during King William’s War in the year 1689.

Arlington Park International Racecourse as it is called from the current year 2013 reverted from its original name Arlington is located in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights, Illinois. It was the first racetrack in the year 1981 to have a million dollar purse race for Thoroughbreds. The Chicago region has been a major horse racing venue since the early days of the city in 1830s and at one time had more horse racing tracks than any other metropolitan area in the country.

Ron the Greek Wins the Jockey Gold Cup

A superb win by Ron the Greek with a lead of 6 3/4 lengths at the $1 million Jockey Gold Cup on September 28 at Belmont Park. Picking up at the perfect time to throttle ahead in the lengthy run for 1 1/4 miles, the son of Full Mandate partnered with Jose Lezcano paced the race alone from the rail in third cutting the corner with long strides that left the leaders Alpha and Palace Malice behind.

When using a horse racing system what handicapping factors should the horse player use? That seems to be one of the difficult choices you have to make when you decide to bet on a race and you’re looking for a good bet. Speed, of course, is a very important factor, but it is also probably the one that is most often used and therefore, there are no secrets when it comes to which horse has run the fastest in the past. All the factors are well known to the general public and we’re drowning in a sea of data and information. Therefore, since computers seem to have leveled the playing field for horse players, maybe the trick isn’t what factor you use but how you put them together. For instance, while pace and speed are closely linked, what about weight as an indicator of class?
