They used to say that all roads lead to Rome. They also say that there’s more than one way to skin a cat. I say there are many ways to pick winners at the horse races. Finding good horse racing bets isn’t easy but it can be done. The problem is that while you may be able to pick winners at the races, you still lose money. That is perhaps the most common complaint I hear from the people who come to me to learn horse racing handicapping. So if you’re losing money but picking winners, don’t feel badly. You’re not alone. Let’s look at ways to turn that around so the winners you pick do make you a profit.

Horse Racing Systems That Work and How to Spot Them

The best way to succeed at anything is to find someone who has figured out a good system and to learn how to do it from them. The problem is that anyone who is really making money from the horse races isn’t likely to give away his money making secrets. So let’s be realistic about what you can and cannot expect from a horse racing system that you buy. First of all, there are many people selling systems to do all kinds of thing, not just handicapping, who will promise you the moon to get your money. Be a wise shopper and realize that if the hype sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t true. It’s just hype, or worse yet, lies.

2013 Arlington Million and American St. Leger Stakes

2013 Beverly D and Secretariat Stakes

horse racingOn 2013 Arlington Million day, Dank (right) won the Beverly D (G1) by 4 1/4 lengths over Gifted Girl with Ausus third, while Admiral Kitten rallied to win the Secretariat Stakes (G1) by 1 1/4 lengths over Stormy Len and Jack Milton. Also on the card were two divisions of the Hatoof Stakes won by I’m Already Sexy and I O Ireland and the Straight Line Stakes won by Fordubai. Get the results, charts, and photos here.

Horse Racing And How To Create A Line Up

The odds in a race is a means of stating a horse’s abilities of which can also be written in the form of a percentage. Every person that plays the races need to learn how to create their own line up so that it is more professionally structured. Each player will do their best but some are more skilled than others. There are three levels of handicappers. For the intermediate level handicapper it’s a matter of reading the daily racing form, the racing digest, tip sheets, newspapers, the track program and other material to choose horses that are believed to have the strongest potential. For beginner level players it will be a matter of guessing and asking other players what horse or horses they’ve chosen for particular positions.

We’re drowning in a sea of information, but even as I write this, the companies that supply horse racing handicappers with data and statistics are figuring out ways to present new products with more information. The race for more information, to be better informed is a spin-off of the digital age where a library of information can now be stored on a small chip. How much can the human brain process, however, and how much do you need to know to pick horse racing winners? Pace Handicapping Mistakes and Angles For Horse Racing Winners

While many factors should be considered and used when handicapping a horse race, one angle that shouldn’t be overlooked is the pace matchups and scenario of the race. Pace simply means the speed at which each horse runs during each of the segments of the race. The race, of course, is divided into fractions of the total distance, usually about 2 furlongs each. The reason pace matters is because each race track has its own peculiarities that make certain running styles and pace matchups more successful.
